The Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band got together for two days at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. in 1973. It was a huge event with around 80,000 people in attendance.
The show had opening acts Doug Sahm for the first day and Wet Willie for the second. The Allman Brother closed the first day and the Grateful Dead closed the second. Both band played very long set lists making the second show extend well past midnight. The shows used GD's prototype Wall of Sound with a stereo PA System with JBL speakers inside Alembic cabinets plus a stereo Auxiliary PA. Truly an historic event and we have all of the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers music for you in nice soundboard quality.

Thanks! I was lucky to be at the 1st day's show. The bands were both great. It was a typical hot humid DC weekend, causing a lot of problems keeping the instruments in tune & sound system running smooth. Took the train down from Jersey, which was full of many other concert goers. More old ABB please. [Boston Tea Party maybe?]
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ABB and GD
ReplyDeleteSolid post here, Arizona!

ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I am really enjoying the ABB shows
ReplyDeleteFinally got around to DLing this - Thanks AZ.

An incredible two days of music, though oddly seems positioned as a warm-up for the Watkins Glen festival a month and a half later. The music wasn't nearly as good there, though.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Dead opened the 6/10 set with Morning Dew, that's a sign it's going to be a great day.
