Weather Report is of my favorite progressive Jazz bands. This is a show I had never seen before. It is only a partial show but I will take what I can get. Great musicianship and nice sound quality on this one.

Legion Of Mary Band featuring Jerry Garcia, Two shows from April 1975

I started this Jerry Garcia rampage with a April 1975 Legion Of Mary show and it will come to an end with two shows from April 1975. These are both great soundboards. I still have more but I want to move on to something else for a little while. I hope this will keep the Jerry fans happy for a while. The Bottom line show for me is an old friend. I had a tape of it way back in the 80s and listened to it many times.

Great American String Band, 1974

This post is two shows from The Great American String Band. Another Jerry Garcia side project. It only lasted a short time in this configuration. I can only find seven documented shows that they played. This appears to be a continuation of the Old And In The Way idea with Garcia on banjo and Grisman on mandolin. This band then eventually morphed into the first configuration of the David Grisman Quintet. Already at this point they are doing several songs that would be some of the David Grisman Quintet's standards.

100,000 visitors

There have been 100,000 visits to my blog. I'm sure in that over 100,000 visits many are just the same people who have visited many times over the last several month. Well thanks to those who have come and enjoyed what I enjoy. The most visited page on my blog to my surprise is the post on West Clear Creek Wilderness. Posts with the Allman Brothers and the Grateful dead are in the top 10 as well as Los Lobos. Number five on the list is the Post on Rick Griffin Artwork. Posts of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis are also in the top ten. So my viewers have a wide variety of interests, just like I do. The outdoors, rock music, art, and even some of my spiritual pontifications.

Here is yet another great Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders show. This one has some really hot versions and the sound quality is fantastic. Should I stop yet? I still have several more from this era. Jerry and Merl were on fire back in those days. Just think how hot Jerry was playing with the Grateful Dead during this same period.

Here is another Jerry Garcia and Merle Saunders show. This one has Sara Fulcher on vocals in some places and has some rare songs. If you like early '73 Garcia/Saunders, and especially Sara Fulcher's vocal stylings, you'll love this. It has lots of super-rare Fulcher-dominated tunes here. And the sound on this is very good!

Old And In The Way, 6-06-1973

Here is another side project that Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead was involved in in the early to mid seventies. It is a blugrass band called Old And In The Way, with the great Vassar Clements, Peter Rowan, and David Grisman. I have posted some shows of this band before. Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders, 7-03-1973

Here is another of the Jerry Garcia side projects. This one is under the name of Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders. This is a long one with close to three hours of music. The second set on this one gets way out there with a 20 minute My Funny Valentine followed by a 10 minute Finders Keepers (my favorite), with an unknown trumpet player adding to the fun. When you look at what Garcia was doing with the Grateful Dead at this time and add this to it, you just have to wonder how it was possible that anyone could produce this much. Again it is a real fine soundboard recording.

Jerry Garcia with Legion Of Mary Band, 4-19-75

Legion Of Mary Band was just one of the many names of the projects that Jerry Garcia was involved with on the side when not doing the Grateful Dead. Durring the period between 1973 and 1975 Garcia was involved with, Old And In The Way, Great American String Band, Legion Of Mary Band, Garcia and Saunders, and Jerry Garcia Band. This is a very fine soundboard recording. This is the first of a series of several (eight or nine) Garcia side projects I am going to post from this time period in the near future.
