Jazz Is Dead, With Derek Trucks, 4-24-99 (SBD)

This is a great sounding recording of a great group of musicians. There is just some fantastic playing by everyone involved on this. The date of this show might be wrong. I was under the impression that Billy Cobham was the drummer during 1998 and Sipe and Morgenstien came in 1999. So it might be 4-24-99. They were touring the west in April of both years so it is hard to tell. If anyone knows the true date help me out. I have not been able to find this on any other site so maybe it was on the older Dr. Fusion before he got axed and had to rebuild. Anyway here it is for all to enjoy.

I have not seen this one anywhere so I guess this is an Arizona Jones exclusive. I have had the tape since 1999. The original Dat was tapped by a guy named Phil from Tucson, AZ and he put it on cassete for me. There is some of the start of Eyes cut off at the tape flip and Terrapin cuts at the end of the tape.

These photos are from the show at the Keswick Theater. This is another Jazz is Dead show but it has Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett from Little Feat opening and then playing with Jazz Is Dead. So I guess you could call this one Jazz Is Little Dead Feat, or something like that. Anyway it's pretty cool and has great sound quality as well.

Jazz Is Dead, 5-30-98

It has come to my attention that T. Lavitz the keyboard player for Jazz is Dead passed away at age 54 on October 7th 2010. Lavitz has played in the bands Widespread Panic, Dixie Dregs, and Jazz Is Dead. He also toured with Jefferson Starship in 1996, and has played in several prjects with Paul Barrere of little Feat. He will be missied in the world of music but his music will be enjoyed well into the future. May his spirit be in eternity with the creator in heaven. So here is a fine recording of Jazz Is Dead to remember him by. It has special guest John Scofield playing on it to sweeten it that much more.
